Ruth Irene Reed entered this world on August 22, 1936, the second child to be born to William and Dorothy Reed. She departed this earthly life following a brief illness on November 22, 2017 in the presence of her loving family.
Ruth attended grade school in Green Lake Township when the school was a one-room school house located on 10th Street in Interlochen. She graduated from Traverse City High School in 1955. Most of her career was spent in the banking world where she held jobs with various banks throughout the area. She also ventured into the world of retail, working as a Mary Kay Cosmetics representative and in the cosmetic section of Prange’s. She ended her career at Interlochen Center for the Arts where she worked in the Business Office. In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed sewing and an occasional trip to a casino for “slot machine” therapy. She will be remembered as a kind, unassuming woman who cared deeply for her friends and family. She was a member of the Church of Christ Restored.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Dorothy Reed; one brother, Ray Reed; two brothers-in-law, Edward Zaleski and James Root; and one nephew, Ryan Besaw. She leaves behind to mourn her loss two sisters, Doris Zaleski and Judy Root (fiance’ Doug Virgil) and one brother, Roger (Kathy) Reed. Ruth would not want us to forget all of her many nieces and nephews whom she adored and considered to be the “children” that she never had: Edward Zaleski, Robert Zaleski, Barbara (Rick) Drewyour, Roy (Cindy) Reed, Jeff Reed, Craig Reed, Jason (Angela) Reed, Ray (Andrea) Reed, Jeremy (Michelle) Root, Chad (Andrea) Root, Andy (Amanda) Reed, and Jessica (Jason) Sperber. She also leaves behind many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends whom she cared for deeply.
Please remember Ruth by “paying it forward” with a kind act or deed. She would like that!
Services for Ruth were held at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., presided over by Douglas Virgil. Visitation took place one hour prior to the service. Burial took place in the spring at Inland Township Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Covell Funeral Home, Traverse City.
