Mildred Creighton, 83, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2015. She lived her life never putting herself first but looking out with loving care for the best interest of her family and friends. She was born in Traverse City on July 12, 1932. Mildred married Daniel Creighton on April 26, 1952 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City.
Mildred graduated from Traverse City St. Francis, class of 1950, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Upon graduation, she competed for Cherry Queen, where her shyness, unfortunately, prevailed. Her first job was with Cone Drive Gear as a secretary, preparing her for her secretarial position with McGraw Hill Book Publishing Company in Chicago. Along with her husband Dan, she owned and operated 5 indoor movie theaters in northern Michigan. She later managed a distributorship for the Detroit News. Mildred’s greatest joy was raising her 4 daughters and 1 son. She put her heart and soul into being a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed trying new recipes, picking fruit to can. She was a talented seamstress and knitter. She adored being outside, gardening and taking delight in her roses. Her affection for her dog, Harley was enduring. Mildred found time to volunteer for the VASA, Funeral luncheon committee, Right to Life and Christmas bazaar’s at her parish; Christ the King. She also joined with Dan, as a Eucharistic Minister, administering communion at Munson.
Her delight in beautiful blue skies, laughter and warm hugs will be forever cherished.
Mildred was the loving wife of the late Daniel (2014). She is survived by children: Pamela (Harry) Riehl, Kathy (Bill) Krupowicz, Mary (Ted) Forcier, Carol Wheat, Kelley (Tanya) Creighton; grandchildren, Melissa Riehl, Brittany (Steve) Chaney, Lauren Krupowicz, Adam (Lauren) Creighton, Danielle Forcier, Brent (Melissa) Wheat, Chad Wheat and Tanner and Kelsey Creighton. Six great-grandchildren and sister in law, Rena Wurm. Mildred was preceded in death by her brothers; Robert and Louis Wurm.
Mildred’s family is grateful to the members of the staff at the cottages in Willow, along with the staff on Cherry Hall at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. Their unselfish extraordinary care will never be forgotten.
