John Wellington Pomeroy, 49 years, of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday morning in a motor vehicle accident. Born Feb. 26, 1964, in South Haven, John was the son of Richard Pomeroy Sr. and the late Joanne (Roloff) Pomeroy.
John was a 1982 graduate of Traverse City Central High School and received his bachelor’s degree in business from Western Michigan University.
On July 8, 1989, John married the love of his life, Mary Jo Toski, at All Faith Chapel in Traverse City.
John was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was the true definition of a “family man.” As a loyal Spartans, Lions and Tigers fan, John made many trips with his family to watch his teams play. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, coaching his children in many sports, playing in the local softball league and taking many trips to the casino.
John is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Mary Jo; children, Daniel Tollzien, Andrew (Kayla Cousino) Tollzien, Rachel Pomeroy and Alex Pomeroy; father, Richard Pomeroy Sr.; stepmother, Elizabeth (Loy) Pomeroy; brothers, Clark (Mary) Pomeroy, Richard (Jane) Pomeroy Jr. and Scott (Chris Ubl) Pomeroy; sister, Traci (Nathan) Welch; stepsisters, Jennifer (John) Hegener and Elizabeth Price; mother-in-law, Barbara (Moen) Toski; sisters-in-law, Johnine (Greg) Reamer and GeriAnn (Duane) Beeman; brothers-in-law, Paul (Chris Otto) Toski and David (Tina Larsen) Toski; many nieces and nephews; and two grand dogs, Tiger and Marlo.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joanne (Roloff) Pomeroy; and father-in-law, John Toski.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at 2 p.m., at The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster Road, Traverse City, MI 49686.
William Kochis was not only John’s co-worker, but to each other they were family. In remembrance of this friendship the family requests that memorial contributions for John Pomeroy be made to: In Care of Shannon Kochis, for the college fund of the Kochis children. Contributions can be sent to 1850 Cobblestone Lane, Oxford, MI 49371. Memorial contributions may also be made to Aflac’s Cancer Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
