It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Pop” Lucio announces his passing on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the age of 85. He passed peacefully at home in Redondo Beach, California surrounded by his family. Bob was born on May 21, 1932 in Seattle, Washington, and moved to Hawthorne, California at the age of 2. Bob and his high school sweetheart, Darlene, married in 1952 and raised their family in Redondo Beach. He was an incredibly hard working man who embraced challenges and succeeded at anything he set out to accomplish. From 1950-1954, Bob served in the U.S. Navy, where he developed his tenacious spirit that he carried throughout his life. He began a construction company in the late 1950s, building homes and apartment complexes throughout the beach cities.
After his career in construction and real estate development, Bob and his wife, Darlene, opened The Old Barn Restaurant in Oakhurst, California. The restaurant became a huge success and the move to the Yosemite area allowed Bob to spend time enjoying his hobbies of fishing, boating, and water skiing on Bass Lake. He also developed a love for ranching as he cultivated an extensive apple orchard with his own two hands that provided the filling for the legendary pies at The Old Barn. After the restaurant closed in 1990, Bob and Darlene spent their time square dancing, gambling in Las Vegas and enjoying their family. Bob was, first and foremost, a family man who was dedicated to his wife, three children, and their families.
Bob will forever be remembered by his wife of 65 years, Darlene and their children, Pam, Denise (Ray), and Craig (Vinka). He will also be fondly remembered by their seven grandchildren, Brian (Julianna), Jacob (Colleen), Cory (Isabel), Amber, Chelsea (Patrick), Carley (Chris) and Eric and seven great grandchildren, Lucas, Logan, Jazmine, Juliette, Abigail, Celeste and Evelyn. In lieu of flowers, the Family requests that donations be made in the name of Robert Lucio to: Providence TrinityCare Foundation, 5315 Torrance Blvd. B1, Torrance, CA 90503 or online at http//california.providence.org.
