Richard Kenneth Mullen, born July, 31 1936 passed away November 30th in the presence of his wife Grace. Richard was born in Newark, New Jersey and was the son of Leo and Frieda Mullen. He graduated from California State University Northridge in 1966 with a B.A. in Business Administration.
Richard had several prestigious jobs, most notably with Hughes Aircraft Company. While with Hughes, Richard was promoted to the Senior Business Manager for the F-15 radar program. Richard remained with Hughes until he retired at the young age of 58.
Richard is survived by his incredibly devoted wife Grace, son Brian, grandson Michael, brother Robert and sister Roberta. Richard was predeceased by his daughter Julia in 2002.
Richard was a passionate athlete. He loved triathlons, dirt bikes, cycling and once held his high school’s record for the 30 foot rope climb. He was a true outdoorsman. You could always find him camping, hiking, hunting, fishing or traveling in his big yellow van. After retiring, he loved playing with his golf buddies at the Palos Verdes Country Club. He also very much enjoyed watching auto racing.
All those who shared their life with Richard will remember his warm hugs, beautiful smile and his generous and giving heart. For this and countless other reasons, he will be greatly missed and affectionately remembered. Richard has left us, but he will eternally live on in our thoughts and lasting memories.
