Karen Anne Anderson

Karen Anne (Higgins) Anderson was born on June 17, 1945 in San Diego, CA, where her father was stationed while in the U.S. Navy. She was raised in San Francisco, CA. She attended parochial school, and later, St. Paul's High School, graduating in 1963. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed mystery novels throughout her lifetime. Her love for mysteries rolled into television and movies later in life, especially in her love for such shows as Columbo, The Snoop Sisters, and Monk.

Karen worked at St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco, where she was able to display her caring spirit. In May 1965, two of her co­ workers set her up on a date with their brother, George Anderson from Los Angeles. The two enjoyed Karen's first taste of Chinese cuisine and fell in love. They were married in July of 1966 and became nearly inseparable. They remain in love to this day.

Karen and George were well known in their public circles as being "such a cute couple," always dressing alike when they left the house, and always so loving. They were very involved at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church as lay ministers for the Eucharist, and any place they were needed. They jointly taught Holy Baptism classes to parents and godparents for years. Together they became certified in the Community Emergency Response Team for the city of Redondo Beach. Karen studied American Sign Language at El Camino College with George, and they enjoyed sharing private conversations together, even in a room crowded with people. Until the Pandemic, Karen and George held annual passes to the Disneyland resort, which helped them to maintain a healthy dating life into their 54th year of marriage.

Karen loved caring for children, and especially babies. Of all the jobs that she performed in her life, "babysitting" was the one that fulfilled her the most. She and George treated every child they cared for like their own children and, later, grandchildren. She loved "her babies."

Karen is survived by: her loving husband George, children Marjorie and Chuck; her six grandchildren: Donald, Jonathon, Joann, Yvonne, Thomas, and Blake; her six great grandchildren Athena, Bryan, Arya, Jude, Vin, and Jackson; three sisters, and countless other kin. She is loved and missed by several friends and acquaintances, especially in the Church.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church 440 Massey Ave, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254 on Friday August 2, 2024. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 followed by the Funeral Mass at 10. A reception will follow in the parish hall, where refreshments will be served.
