Hi used to serve mass at St Patricks shrine church and met Father Bill at the back of the church with Father Joe. Father Bill was very Intelligent and and always a  pleasure to hear his Sermons at sunday mass rest in paste father bill

To all the families of Fr. Bill,

Many years ago, I met Fr.  Bill at St. Patrick's Church and one of his numerous gifts that really stood out for me, among all that he shared with the parishioners, was his eloquence in explaining the readings through his sermons - they were precise, short, direct, easy to understand and to-the point.
I will not forget when I asked him the meaning of a phrase in one of the gospels and his reply was "don't think too much." Another one is "how wonderful Jesus must feel when you call Him - My Lord and my God".
Rest in Peace Fr. Bill, let the angels carry you in the palm of their hands. 



Please accept my condolences on the death of Father Bill. He was a fine man, well respected and liked in his home town of Saint John.  I will offer Morning Prayer for him today and we will offer tonight’s Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help for the repose of his soul.

Dear Fr. Bill and the Redemptorist Community,

I was shocked with sadness to hear the unexpected news last Nov 2nd Wed at the Novena Mass that Fr. Bill's leaving us, who loved him so much.  Though so much sadness,  fondly I remember him with such sweet smile every time he stepped in to the sacristy whenever he's the celebrant for the Wed Novena Mass to our beloved Mother of Perpetual Help. My son,  who was a university student at that time and myself were lectors at the 7 pm Mass when Fr. Bill. was the Pastor at St. Patrick's Parish- "We don't remember days, we remember moments."
He will be missed with his sincere fatherly friendship and loving candor with good sense of humor. Laughter was his sense of connectedness with his parishioners, friends and members of his
 community at St. Patrick parish. We loved him dearly and that he will be missed forever in our hearts. Thank you, Fr. Bill for all your sweet smiles of fatherly goodness and words of wisdom.  May you rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father, your Abba, Father. Eternal rest grant unto him O' Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.  See you later, Father Bill. Extending my deepest sympathies to Fr Bill's family along with the Redemptorist order, staff and parishoners of St Patricks Shrine Church, Toronto.  Fr Bill would begin the mass by explaining the 'Collect' and I looked forward to his gentle voice leading us into the celebration.   May all those who mourn his loss be comforted in the knowledge this kind human being made a significant impact in the lives of so many.  May he rest in eternal peace.

Thanks for your special witness and love for Jesus and His Church. I enjoyed your presence and leadership at St. Peter's in the North End of Saint John. You and your brother priests impacted my life, and the course of my vocation.

To Father Fitzgerald Family & Church Family:  This man lived his life in and out of church. He was a very humble man . His homlies were always a lesson to be learned. My first encounter with Father Fitzgerald was I would go to Tuesday night Novena at 5:00 and his love of Mary was very evident. "Well done good and Faithful servant of God "May you Rest in Peace . They say you earn the face you have. Father Bill’s was the face of kindness. Condolences to his Redemptorist brothers ,family and friends who miss him. 

It was with a heavy heart that I learned of Fr. Bill's illness and now his passing. He was a wonderful man and priest. I always enjoyed the too few interactions that I had with him. He is remembered with great fondness and in my prayers.



We mourn the loss of Fr. Bill. He was a special person to all of his Mitchell cousins on P.E.I. and was much loved.Fifty one years ago he presided at our wedding, and was included in so many Mitchell celebrations  for my parents  over the years.His wisdom, sense of humor  and keen interest in family will always be remembered.Rest in Peace, dear Fr.
