THOMAS, DAVID MICHAEL Jan 8th 1960-December 30 2022, passed away peacefully December 30 2022 at the age of 62 after a long and determined fight with Cancer. Michael was born in Topsham England, but Manchester UK is where he called home. In 1990, Michael and his wife Paula migrated to Canada where they remained to raise their two children Ceri and Jack.
Michael was a professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto and subsequently at the University of New Brunswick. He was a prolific and highly respected researcher in the field of cement science and concrete durability. He was considered one of the top concrete scholars in the world. He was also revered by his students as an inspiring and supportive mentor who’s humour and humility encouraged all who worked with him.
After his wife’s tragic passing in 2015, Michael found love again and married Lorraine in 2017. Together they lived a full life filled with adventures, travel, laughter and love. Although their time together was cut far too short, they truly filled it with a lifetime of memories and happiness. Michael was a loving father, loyal friend, passionate teacher and an adoring husband. He is survived by his two children Ceri and Jack, his sister Jane (Richard), his niece and nephew Rachael and Sam, his wife Lorraine, and his three stepchildren Sarah Jane (Christopher), Connor, and Sophie, and finally his Grandson Leo.
A celebration of life for Michael will be held Tuesday January 3 2023 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at Feathers Pub 962 Kingston Rd, Toronto ON M4E1S7.
