Marion Hill

Our beloved Mom, Nanny, sister, auntie and friend, Marion, died with her family by her side at Bridgepoint palliative care following a year-and-a-half long journey with cancer.

Marion was born on Dec. 3, 1953, in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, to Michael and Kitty Hanlon, who met her in heaven. After landing in Toronto at the young age of 17, Marion made a wonderful life with two great men during her lifetime, making three wonderful children, Michael (Sharon), Sheri, and Matthew (Jasmine), who became her life-long source of happiness and joy.

Three grandchildren followed, Logan, Gracie, and Maia. Marion spent the last year of her life with her grandchildren, laughing, joking, and flying kites. It was her wish and God granted it.

Marion’s capacity for love and caring deeply touched everyone who knew her and were blessed to spend time with her. She never said no to anyone in need and opened her home and heart whether for a cup of coffee, a roaring good joke, a sing-a-long, or one of her many mouthwatering meals. Lasagna was Marion’s speciality and found many family members scrambling to the refrigerator to secure a piece to take home.

For her entire adult life, Marion was a mother, first and foremost. Her children made her proud and happy, she soothed worries and provided strong moral support when times were tough. She could always be counted on.

With her grandchildren, Nanny’s love knew no bounds. They were her world and made her smile each and every time she laid eyes on them. Her nieces and nephews were also under her caring wing, and they loved her deeply. She made a positive difference in all their lives and they are truly grateful.

Marion had a passionate interest in current affairs and CNN, and she rescued several dogs before her passing. She made a point of getting to know her neighbours by name and everyone loved her.

In the past year, Marion had access to all the international foods that a big city could offer, and she loved it. She enjoyed pupusas from El Salvador, pasta from Il Fornello, California Sandwiches, and Pho from her favourite restaurant called Mimi’s. Mom wanted it all and we had it.

In happiness and sadness, Marion is survived by Michael, Sharon, Loggie and Keesha, Matt and Jaz, Greg, Sher, Gracie, and Maia, and Lins, Kimmy (Gert) and Hope, Bee, Ruby, Haley, Julian, and Harlan, cousin Bobby and Ghie Ghie, Fran and Cathy, and many siblings and other family and friends. Mom loved fiercely and will be remembered the same way. We will miss her every day.
