My dear father in law,

I will miss the great memories we shared together.  You couldn't wait for us to come to dinner.  You would sit on the couch waiting for us to walk through that door.  Once I got there we would sit together on the couch and you would tell me your stories, jokes, events that were happening or your latest projects that you were working on in the condominium.  You were so proud of your tools that after dinner we would take a walk to your workshop and show me all your tools and your latest addition to your collection of tools.  You would always buy one set for you and one for me.   When we used to go to Niagara Falls or the cottage, you used to pack days before because you were so anxious to go.  I will never forget the smile on your face when we would come pick you up.  I will never forget the battle of the asparagus.  We always competed in good fun as to who would pick more.  Remember when I came over with that big bag full of asparagus and I told you we picked them…what a laugh when you found out that they were from the farm.  But nobody could ever defeat you.  Just look at all those beautiful pictures you have with the asparagus using a belt to keep them all together.  I greatly miss you, but I know you will always be in my heart and you will always be on that spot on the couch waiting for me to come through that door.  You are never forgotten. Dear Nonno,

It is me, Anthony.  I miss you so much, without you I have a great big hole in my chest that cannot be mended.  It is hard for me to look over at that empty seat when I am at your house visiting Nonna.  Sometimes I feel this is just a bad dream, but it isn't.  You were to young to go, but we knew it would happen very soon due to your cancer.  I still remember that time when me and Nonna were at the Ciociaro Club, you couldn't attend because you were in the hospital.  When we came home, Nonna and I asked Mommy it you had come home.  She said no and all of a sudden you walked out of the bedroom.  It was the greatest feeling in the world to see you.  Every time I saw you I was so happy.  But God seen you struggling and called on you.  To us it felt like God was punishing us for taking you away from us forever.  I know that you did not deserve the pain and suffering and I also know that it is not good-bye for ever.  You have been there for me through thick and thin and knowing you will always be by my side.  I love you and you will always be my guardian angel.  Everytime I see that empty chair, it's not.  You are with us at the table always.  Love always Anthony.  P.S. I will always pray for you and in my heart you are a saint to me.  Ciao Nonno.

Dear Nonno,

Ciao! I am your only grand-daughter Jessica.  I miss you so much.  Me and you have a lot in common.  We both love sweet things and we both loved spending time with each other.  You always helped people when they needed it.  You were their favorite handy-man.  But to me you were much more than just a grandpa.  You always loved working in your workshop and had so many different tools.  You had all these creative ideas for example a spoon with holes in it to drain the water from pasta and fagioli.  I will always remember every time it was Christmas, we would put the Christmas bows all over your face and head.  You loved to work in your garden.  When you and Nonna came to Canada, you guys didn't give up gardening.  You rented a "garden lot" where you would have a shed and a beautiful garden.  I love all the memories, but one of my favorite memory was when you whistled all the way to your workshop and through whatever project you were working on.  You always had a story or a joke up your sleeve.  Everybody loves you and they always enjoyed your company....especially Me!  Well, even though I don't visually see you, I know that you are always beside me.  I love you Nonno..Now and always.  Jessica   P.S.  Nonno remember what I always used to tell you when I would leave...Nonno, stare attento!!  Ciao ti voglio bene.

Caro papà e nonno, non riesco ancora a credere che non sei più con noi. Ci rimane solo i ricordi e tempi meravigliosi che abbiamo passato insieme. Abbiamo avuto momenti felici allo stesso tempo tristi. Ricorderò sempre tutti i tempi che abbiamo trascorso assagiare il  vino dentro la cantina e mangiare le salsicce fatte in casa o a prepare il giardino per cominciare a seminare. Ti ricordi quella volta che hai avuto la tua foto scattata di fronte alla replica della Torre CN fatta di cemento e messo sul giornale?. Questi erano tutti i tempi felici. Quando ci siamo trasferiti in Italia erano felici e tristi tempi, perché non sapevamo quello che stavamo affrontando. Tuttavia, con la tua e la forte volontà della mamma e la dedicazione abbiamo affrontado tutte le cose. Siamo tornati in Canada per iniziare una nuova vita e tu e mamma non avete mai una volta  lamentado che non si poteva fare. Con l'aiuto e il supporto della familglia e amici tutto è possibile. Nel corso degli anni di duro lavoro sei andato in pensione. Tu e la mamma siete stati in  grado di godere finalmente del tempo insieme. Guardando i vostri figli che si sono sposti, vedendo nascere  i tuoi nipoti e avendo cura di Antonio e Jessica fino a quando non hanno iniziato la scuola.   O a  piantare un orto in modo che si poteva mangiare e condividere il vostro raccolto. La migliore è stata la primavera, quando gli asparagi stavano cominciando a crescere. E 'stata sempre una competizione tra voi e Frank per vedere chi prendeva di più. Ricordi  quando Frank ed io siamo andati alla farma degli asparagi di comprarli solo per battere a te .. stiamo ancora ridendo  quando ti abbiamo presentati con tutte quelle buste piene di asparagi. Scherzi a parte quella pasta era buona. Papà siamo fortunati che siamo stati in grado di avere a te nelle nostra vita. I vostri nipoti hanni ricordi belli e sono molto fortunati che hanno i nonni nella loro vita.  sarai sempre nei loro cuori. I tempi che abbiamo trascorso insieme sono momenti speciali, non importa la circostanza o semplicemente venendo intorno a mangiare  i tuoi dolci preferiti .. era il nostro tempo insieme. Una cosa che non dimenticherò mai saranno tue mani. Le tue mani hanno costruito questa famiglia.  Le tue mani ha accolto la famiglia e gli amici.  Le mani mantiene forte i tuoi nipoti.  Le tue mani hanno scelto il miglior raccolto per condividere con tutti. Le tue mani offriva sempre le tue caramelle preferite a ogni bambino che ti veniva vicino.  Le tue mani hanno avuto una forza fin al'ultimo.  Non sofri piu.  Adesso guarda a Dio con il tuo bello soriso a solleviamo noi le mani a Dio dicendo grazie per te dell'amore, della bella persona che sei e  che abbiamo tanti bei ricordi, tuttle le tue storie e il tuo splendido sorriso che rimaranno nei nostri cuori.  Ti amo e ti adoro fino alla fine della nostra vita.  Da sempre i tuoi Anthony, Jessica, Frank and Daniela.

Zia, Livio, Daniella and the entire Lisi Family, What moves through us is silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more touch, one more look, a confusion as to why Zio Mario left before we were ready to say goodbye...BUT little by little we begin to remember not just that he died and left us, BUT that he Lived and his life gave us memories too Beautiful to forget.
