Leelawatie “Dolly” Sookdeo of Toronto, Ontario, age 77, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 24th, 2024. Dolly was born in Georgetown Guyana where she also married Mohamed Deen and had 5 children, 4 sons Derrick, Raymond, Ronald and her one special daughter Amanda who granny fondly called Mala.
After separating from her spouse, Dolly embraced a life of her own and began to live freely by her own rules. A loving, kind and generous soul, Dolly had a way of capturing hearts and being dearly loved by so many. Dolly spent her years as a caregiver for her family and provided her time, love and support towards raising her 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The contribution she has made to the lives of her family and loved ones is an immeasurable example of the incredible woman she always was.
Dolly enjoyed sunsets and nice breeze, she was rooted in culture, “Guyanese to di bone” and loved entertaining her loved ones with her humorous spirit and memorable antics. She was a valued member of her various social groups from her church to her neighborhood posse, there isn’t a person who met Granny that wasn’t fond of her energy. She was deeply devoted to many charities, always extending her support for others. Dolly was a light in the lives she touched with her radiant spirit. There aren’t enough words to express how much she’ll be missed but we rejoice with her she is eternally free now and we pray she will rest peacefully until we meet again.
A visitation for Dolly will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Jerrett Funeral Homes, 660 Kennedy Road, Toronto, ON M1K2B5.
