Born in Kiruna, Sweden, Eric was the son of Karl Sune and Karen Bergitte. Together with his first wife Reidun Kollen, Eric raised daughters Kristin and Catarina, and son Erik Jr while building a career as a mechanical engineer.
In 1978, Eric met Luisa, the love of his life, in Lima, Peru. Together, they had their son Gabriel and moved to Toronto, where they had a life filled with family, close neighbours and friends, and above all, love.
Eric became a pioneer in the industry of automated transportation systems in underground mines, founding his own company and consulting with multiple international companies.
A man of great faith, Eric loved his family the most, making sure to take frequent trips to visit his family in Sweden and Norway. A talented painter and woodworker, Eric’s creations were often gifted to family members, a firm reminder of Eric’s love and kindness. He could be frequently found reading a mystery novel or book about history, baking Swedish treats, cooking his family-favourite ribs, and displaying a perfect poker face when playing the Peruvian dice game Cachitos.
Cherishing Eric’s memory are wife Luisa, daughters Kristin (Peter) and Catarina (Lars), sons Erik Jr. (Sarah) and Gabriel (Jennifer), and precious grandchildren Calle, Louise, Stella, Lykke, and Christoph. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Eric was predeceased by brothers Kalle, Stig, Sten, and sister Solveig.
Memorial mass to be held Tuesday, May 02, 2023 at 11 am at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Parish, 670 Sheppard Avenue East, North York, Ontario. Donations can be made to Princess Margaret Hospital in Eric’s memory.
The family would also like to thank the staff of Princess Margaret Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their care in Eric’s final days.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kanejerrettnorthyork.ca for the Nylund family.
