Janet was born on August 12, 1910 in Lewisporte, Newfoundland to Daniel and Jessie Downton.
In 1931, she married her beloved husband, the late Chesley George Luscombe (1975). Looking for work, they moved from Newfoundland to Ontario in 1949, where Janet found herself working as a seamstress at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). With a personal motto of “don’t sit in the rocking chair” she spent her time active in her church, she loved day trips, shopping, eating out and knitting knee and prayer blankets, clothing for the homeless and baking bread to share with those she loved. She was also a loyal supporter of the Scott Mission and SickKids Hospital.
She was the oldest person in Ontario and the 3rd oldest person in Canada.
Janet was predeceased by 8 siblings and their spouses as well as 3 grandchildren; David, Donald and Dennis Abbott.
