On Sunday, September 1st, 2019, our good friend, Jim (James David) Allan died peacefully at Fudger House in Toronto after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Jim was 67 years old. He had been a resident at Fudger since 2013. Jim was born on April 7th, 1952 in London, England. As a young and only child, he emigrated with his parents, James and Edith, to Canada, where they initially settled in Ahuntsic Quebec before moving on to Montreal and later, Toronto. His father, James Allan Sr. succumbed to the same disease on December 26 2013. His Mother, Edith, predeceased both several years earlier. Jim enjoyed a successful career in the Canadian property/casualty insurance industry, unfortunately shortened in his 50s by the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. His employers included Royal & Sun Alliance, Zurich Insurance, St-Paul Travelers, Lombard Insurance, and others. He is remembered among his friends, colleagues, and, ultimately, by his caregivers as being loyal, good natured, of quick wit, and always happy to help if help was needed. Jim was keenly interested in furthering his insurance knowledge and professional accreditations, successfully achieving his Insurance Institute CIP and FCIP designations, as well as his CRM designation. Given his time spent in Quebec, Jim was also fluent in French. He is survived by his cousins, Ann and Susan Douthwaite in England, and his many friends and former colleagues in Canada. We wish to thank the wonderful staff of Fudger House and, earlier, Seaton House for their loving care of Jim.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jim’s name is suggested to the Alzheimer’s Society (https://alzheimer.ca/en/Home/Get-involved).
