Gavin was born on July 26, 1982 in Comox, British Columbia, Canada and passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the age of 40.
Gavin will be greatly missed by his wife and best friend, Katy, their dogs, Roxy and Reynolds, his parents, David and Judy Maclean, his sisters, Fiona Maclean and Trish (Rick) Saunders, his aunts, Wendy (Tom) Christianson and Elaine Palko, his nephew, Josh Saunders, and the many extended family members, friends, and colleagues he touched throughout his life.
Gavin is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Murray and Marjorie Maclean, his maternal grandparents, John and Valeria Palko, his uncle, David Palko, and his aunt, Judy Slinn.
A beautiful writer who had an exceptional way with words, Gavin was intelligent, witty, and incredibly kind. He loved seeing the world through travel, exploring great restaurants, cooking, art, music, and video games, and was happiest curled up with a great book, a crunchy snack, and a dog at his feet. As with so many words right now, to call Gavin a coffee connoisseur feels inadequate. Years before getting his coffee tattoo, Gavin told Starbucks in his first interview that art and coffee were the two constants in his life. This was, of course, before Katy came along. Gavin was an introvert at heart but never hesitated to share a loving word or crack a joke at just the right (or perfectly wrong) moment. He was unique and wonderful beyond measure, and his grounding warmth brought joy to so many lives.
Memorial donations may be given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Embrace a Discarded Animal Society or Urban Tails Animal Rescue.
Information regarding Gavin’s Celebration of Life will be shared via email.
