He was born on March 11, 1936, to James Mitchenson Barnes and Gladys Kate Barnes (nee Cooper) in Toronto, Ontario.
Dr. Barnes earned a Ph.D in Latin at the University of Toronto and lead curriculum development for Humanities courses in the Province of Ontario. He taught Latin and Humanities, and was the Head of the Classics Department at C.W. Jefferys Secondary School for more than 35 years. He also taught summer school Humanities courses at OCE.
He married Patricia Bell on May 22, 1963, and they had two children together; Margaret Ann and Edward William.
Ted was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and he was truly happiest when spending time with Pat and their family and the dogs at the cottage in Haliburton. Ted loved working in his rose garden and was passionate about watching his children and grandson excel at their own pursuits, especially hockey and ballet.
Ted is survived, and will be dearly missed by, wife Pat, children Maggie (Roger) and Edward, grandson William, and siblings Beverly McKay (Hal), Thomas (Linda Thomson) and David (Dr. Anne Lloyd).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge St., Toronto, Ontario.
