Hi Doreen

I wrote this for you last week. It does not capture enough of the contributions to the lives around you, but here it is. I was going to speak this to you at the service but chose the poem instead. I'm posting this to share and remember. xoxo

In memory, we reach back to happier times to remember our devoted Mum and Nan. 

A woman born in different times than now, throughout her life she was steady in her support of the underdog, of the hardship that could be bestowed upon women, her empathy for her fellow people and the challenges of life was her well strength. 

Mum's great determination to flourish, to work hard and to celebrate life was inspirational. Mum leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful friendships that have passed through her life at different times. Mum's love of baseball and the Bluejays, of Bingo and her social club, a passion for scary movies and her enjoyment of Tom Jones were some of her many passions we enjoyed together. 

Mum loved an outing, a get-together, a family dinner, a night on the town and of course, most of all, she was proud of her family. 

Remembered are the homemade pies with a delicious pastry, fresh Ontario strawberries, the best brownies ever tasted, Nan's pancakes, Sunday spare-ribs, toast fingers dipped in soft-boiled eggs and leftover roast beef in the frying pan with gravy. 

Mum's family circled wide, always inclusive of all those who were loved by her family members and sometimes simply friends who needed a family. 

We will dearly miss your laughter, your kindness and all your unconditional love. Mum, you will stay with us in our thoughts, in our stories, in our successes and most of all, in all our hearts forever.

Doreen was the best.  A person always knew where they stood with her. Sitting down with her at the kitchen table having a tea  you were guaranteed a great conversation with a bit of wisdom of course.  She was an amazing lady.

We moved into 115 Pape Ave @1967...Doreen and her boys..Lar & Ron  were at 97 Pape...we  became life long friends our two families...the only two  Doreen's I have known in my life were my own mom...and Doreen Cameron..& on the same block!!  Go figure.lol...a 2nd mom in so many ways growing up... a very special lady & influence to  my brother and sisters as well as myself...thank you Doreen for all you've done for me/us  ..i am  grateful to have known you  the 53 years it's been...wow!!  A lifetime in the snap of the fingers when you  look back at it all...nothing but good memories of you and it brings a smile to my face thinking back on it ...thank you Doreen! I will miss you...

Thank you Doreen for a lifetime of happy memories. Doreen loved a home-cooked meal and often showed her love through food. In our early years of knowing each other, I remember most the wonderful roast beef dinners and strawberry pie for dessert. I had never had a homemade pie like Doreen’s. Fresh Ontario strawberries baked to perfection inside the most delicious crust I’ve ever tasted. They were such a treat. Doreen taught me how to make that pie and many more. A handmade crust using a fork and arm muscle, fruit hand-cut, a few little secrets and lots of love became our shared love of homemade pie. For our wedding, Doreen went all out to find someone who hand made our wedding cake, with pink trim and pussy willow decorations, exactly what I would like, and indeed just loved. Doreen made a lot of the food at our potluck wedding, helping to make sure all logistics went well so we could enjoy our day. In our early years, before the internet, I would call to ask about how to cook roast beef, what to buy, how to boil an egg (yup). The other outstanding recipe I have to mention is Nan’s Pancakes. These are made from scratch and are a family favourite. Lovingly shared so we could make them too. Doreen shared her life, her family and her love with me and we all had so much fun together for so many years. Thank you so much. I miss you and I love you too.

I remember when I was just a little kid, whenever Doreen came to visit I would jump on her lap and wouldn't leave her alone, but she loved it and I loved her. She always had a smile whenever I saw her and although I haven't seen her in many years, I will never forget her. Love you Doreen. Rest peacefully.

Mom looked forward to being with family especially her grandkids. Ronny told me about the time when mom was 60 yrs old she put on rollerblades for the first time and she was good at it. Instant legend to Ronny and Chris.

Doreen Cameron was not just my mom, we were great pals. She had the biggest impact in my life. I grew up knowing how strong, good, honest and do the right thing kind of person she was. We argued, cried but mostly we laughed together. If I could be half the person you were mom I would have it made in the shade kiddo. Everyone dies we have no choice but not everyone lives, you lived life to the fullest, you never lost your inner child mom. If there is one word to describe you, fire cracker would sum it up perfectly. Just want to say thanks for all pictures and wonderful memories people are putting up mom loves it!

I didn’t know Doreen well but she greatly influenced the lives of my niece Andrea Cameron and her family. She was always spoken of with warmth and affection. So sorry for your loss Larry, Andrea and Madeleine. 

When i think about mum and what she meant to me i can say that without a doubt  i would not be the person i am today. Mum instilled confidence with her never give up attitude and her selflessness throughout our lives was never bending. Until we meet again mum rest in peace. Love Larry xoxoxoxo

My dearest Doreen, I was truly saddened when I learned that you had passed away. I was just 18 years old when I met you. It was a true honour to have known you and I will always remember you and the funny stories used to tell every time I would see you. Especially the one about how I broke your phone the very first time I met you when I came to your house LOL. You were definitely one of the good ones and I'll Always Love You. May you rest in peace. Doreen was one of the sweetest souls I've ever met. Though I didn't see her often, when I did, I felt her warmth and kindness radiating. She was my cousins grandma, and she never failed to send me a birthday gift each year from "Madelines Nan." Sending love to the Cameron family and thankful I had the chance to witness the magic of Doreens kind heart.

I met Doreen when I was 17yrs old. Doreen you had such a huge impact in my life. We could sit for hours at the kitchen table talking, laughing and confiding in each other. We had a special friendship that I will always cherish. I would look forward to each Saturday when you would visit and would get a little sad when you would leave. I don't recall meeting Doren for the first time, likely because she treated me like family from that moment :) , and I always felt that connection as well. She was my sister's mother in law. She was warm, funny, generous , and always had a twinkle and a hug. She loved her family above all else, and we were lucky enough to be included in that circle. When my daughter was born, she  added her to the family , and for all of Tara's life, she got a card and a $20.00 bill every Xmas " from Madeline's Nan"  <3
Most recently I   loved playing pandemic bingo by video with Doreen, Dree, Larry and sometimes Maddie and Simon.  Lots of Saturday night games were the hilight of my week.
Rest in Peace Doreen, the world is a little colder without your twinkle, smiles and hugs.xo

Mom was born in 1932 during the Great Depression and maybe that's what made her such a strong person.

Growing up every kid on the street wanted Doreen for a mom, she played sports, board games, cards and took us to the movies. We grew up poor as for money matters but in other ways mom made us feel so rich.

Mom was the type of person you could go to for advice or if you needed a laugh, mom was one of the wisest, funniest, quick witted person anyone will ever meet.

It’s impossible to think about my childhood and not think about Nan.  I always looked forward to the weekend because I knew I’d be seeing you.

Doreen Cameron or Nan to me was so many beautiful things to so many people… she was kind, she was strong, she was funny,  she was the kind of person that would help anyone in need.   Those are just some of the reasons I’m so grateful I spent so much time with nan when I was young.  I owe so much of the person I am today to nan and the way she helped raise me.    I have so many great memories to pull from but what I remember most is just always being with her, whether it was our trips to Gerard square or playing games with the family or just hanging out watching movies.  Thank you for all the great times nan!  When I think about not being able to see you again it hurts so much, but I know you’ll always be with me.  

My childhood just wouldn’t have been the same without my Nan. She made the weekends magical—whether it was boardgames and cards, baseball at greenwood park, movie nights or Sunday dinners with the family—Nan did it all, and she made us all feel so loved and good inside.

Doreen Cameron was an amazing person, probably the most good hearted person I’ve ever known, and I’m going to miss her with all my mine.

I love you Nan, truly the best ❤️

Rest in peace Aunt Doreen. You were the best. Never to be forgotten. Till we meet again.

I think I first met Doreen when we gathered at her apartment to prepare food  for Andrea and Larry's wedding. My impression of her - as a fun, friendly and energetic person, who treasured family over everything - never changed. Through countless family birthdays and holiday celebrations over 30 years, Dave, Riley and I have been so lucky to have Doreen in our lives. We were welcomed into the circle of her love and we loved her in return. Will miss hearing her stories, her great sense of humour, and her hugs.  Rest in peace dear Doreen.

With loving memories of an amazing woman!! So glad I was able to be blessed with her presence for such a large portion of my life!

May you rest in peace, Aunt Doreen. I only had the pleasure of meeting you once, on July 2, 2017 for a mini-reunion with mom Diane, my sister Karen and myself. One day. Lifetime of memories. So thankful.

My sincere condolences to the family.  I met Doreen many years ago at the bingos in her building.  She would call back numbers with me on Wednesday nights. She was always friendly, fun and cheerful.  An amazing lady, who will be missed. Hold on to the memories and that will put a smile on your face. Another Angel off to heaven.
