Denise Costis White 1939-2015 passed away at St. Michael’s Hospital on Monday, October 12th with her family by her side. Denise was loved by all, including her late husband Robert White, daughters Lisa, Michelle and Emily, and her beloved grandchildren, Conrad, Sarah, Kristina and Grace. She predeceases her mother, Coula Costis.
Denise was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, but quickly developed a taste for big city life. She attended McGill University and, soon after achieving her teacher's certificate, decided to move to Toronto. This was a happy decision for all, since it meant that she met the love of her life, Bob. Denise and Bob lived happily in downtown Toronto, with Bob a professor at York University and Denise having a very successful and fulfilling academic career at Sir Wilfred Laurier high school, first as an English Teacher and then in later years as the Head Librarian.
Happy times were spent seeing their children, celebrating the birth of their grandchildren and going to art galleries. Travel was a big part of their lives, often
accompanied by their Siamese cat, Daphne! Denise made life-long friends and instilled a love of learning in countless students.
Denise had a gift for friendship and caring. She leaves behind not only her immediate family but many members of her close extended family and friends who she saw as family. She will be missed by all of us, and for a long time.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trull Funeral Home, 2704 Yonge Street, Toronto on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 2:00 pm, with a visitation beginning at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to two places where Denise received excellent care-- The St. Michael's Cardiac Centre. http://www.stmichaelsfoundation.com/donate or Sunnybrook Hospital Odette Cancer Centre https://www.donate.sunnybrook.ca
