David Robert Thornton passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Humber River Hospital, Toronto, Ontario. He was born on April 13, 1943, in Harrow, London, England, to parents Alfred and Marjorie (Gayton) Thornton.
His family emigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled in Saint John.
He was educated in England, Montreal, and Saint John. A graduate of Saint
John High School in 1960, he studied at National Theatre School of Canada,
Montreal, graduating in 1967.
He worked extensively in theatre, tv, and film. Providing service to performance venues across Canada,
usually as Technical Director. Notably at Expo 67.
He also taught his trade at the National Theatre School, and Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Performance.
Surviving are his sister Glenda in Sackville, NB; son David (Ashley McKay)
and their two children, Sybil and Frederic in Toronto, ON; son Ryan; his
children Hunter and Duncan and their mother Cynthia Fawcett in Sudbury,
ON; niece Andrea Rennick (Ron), their children and grandchildren all in the
Fredericton area, NB.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother Adrian and former wife, Maureen (Allen) Thornton.
He struggled for years with MS at first doggedly, and then increasingly graciously, to spite the pain and discomfort.

His last years were spent at Baycrest Long Term Care Centre, whose staff need to be mentioned for their kind, professional, wonderful support.
