Dave was a steadfast, loving, and supportive husband to Mary for the last 51 years, and very proud father to Heather (Beth) and grandfather to Alan and Henry. He was an older brother to Ronald (Eileen) Cameron of PEI, and Marleen Melanson of Halifax and was predeceased by brothers Joseph, and recently Basil Cameron of Halifax. Dave always enjoyed hearing news of his nephews Ken Melanson, and Adam and Ryan Cameron.
Dave was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 3, 1944 and is predeceased by his parents Benjamin and Loretta (later MacDonald) Cameron. Like many of his generation he moved up to Ontario for work and settled in Hamilton, working first at Westinghouse and then for many years at Hoover. He met Mary MacDougall at a dance and they were married soon after. Dave was a loyal family man and friend, hard-working employee and a passionate golfer. He enjoyed music and he loved dogs, once arriving home unannounced with a new family pet he'd rescued from a neglectful owner. He gave Mary and Heather his strength through difficult times while encouraging confidence and independence.
After suffering a stroke in his 60's, Dave's bravery and determination allowed him to continue driving and golfing regularly at Chedoke GC. More recently Dave and Mary moved to Toronto to be closer to Heather and family. The family would like to thank their neighbours Chas, Doris and Brenda for their friendship and support. A special thank you to Novelette for her support and care in the last months.
There will be no service due to the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, donations to Neighbourhood Link Support Services are welcome.
