Constancio was born on September 19, 1935 to Gavino Maghirang and Mamerta Exconde Maghirang in San Pablo, Philippines. He was the youngest and last surviving of seven brothers. After attending high school in his hometown, he went to the big city, Manila to study Architecture at Far Eastern University where he graduated in 1963.
After graduating from university, he eloped with his sweetheart Teresita Capistrano in 1965 and they had been happily married ever since. The adventurous couple made the momentous decision to pull up roots and venture to the other side of planet Earth to Toronto, Canada, where they were among the very first Filipinos to settle in the city. There he got a job as an architectural draftsman.
During their first year in their new homeland, their first child, Jude was born. A year later came their second son, Jeffrey. Constancio bought a little bungalow for his growing family in a leafy suburb close to the lake. He designed an addition a few years later to accommodate their new daughter, Jenna. He was the consummate designer and made much of the home’s furniture himself. He even dabbled in abstract painting and hung some of his work on walls through out the house. The home became a sort of half-way house for relatives from the Philippines who came to visit and who eventually also settled in Canada.
After taking the family to Disney World one year, Constancio and Teresita decided they liked the warm Florida weather better than the cold Canadian winters, so they moved the family to Pensacola, where Constancio’s niece Fely lived, in 1981. There he bought an old house and re-designed and renovated it for his family. He and his wife saw their kids through high school and college after which the kids started lives of their own scattered throughout the East coast and Toronto. Then Constancio and Teresita became the stereotypical Florida retirees. Eventually, they moved back to Toronto after many decades in Florida to be closer to their daughter and grand-daughter.
Constancio is predeceased by his mother Mamerta and father Gavino and brothers Cadio, Johnny, Seveng, Philip,
Pio and Godofredo. He is survived by his wife Teresita, sons Jude and Jeffrey and his wife Yvonne, daughter Jenna and her husband Greg and his beloved grand-daughter Olivia as well as nieces and nephews too numerous to list.
Constancio will be remembered warmly and fondly by his adoring family and friends whose lives he has touched throughout his fruitful, humble yet simultaneously extraordinary life. His optimism attracted people in his community and co-workers alike, many of whom became lifelong friends. His kind and generous spirit will remain with us always.
