Wilson, Barbara Isobel (Née Smith). On February 2, 2012, Barbara passed away peacefully at Toronto East General Hospital, having succumbed to a stroke suffered a week earlier. Barbara was born on October 7, 1916, the only child of Ernest and Jessie Smith. She lived independently in her own house into her 96th year, an achievement of which she was extremely proud. She enjoyed a happy last summer on her own at her cottage in Crystal Beach.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband F.G. (Sonny) Wilson in 1966. She was the loving mother of Gregory Wilson of Toronto and daughter Dale (Wilson) James of Calgary. She was the grateful mother-in-law of Francine Poisson and son-in-law Gordon James. She had two granddaughters who she dearly adored: Jessica and Jennifer James of Calgary.
Barbara’s life was focused on education, reading, genealogy, travel, card and board games, theatre, movies, swimming, dancing, the CBC, dogs, animated conversations and most of all, neighbours and friends.
Friends and family are invited to a Visitation at Trull Funeral Home, 1111 Danforth Avenue, Toronto, on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., also at Trull Funeral Home, to be followed by a reception. Please come prepared to share your favourite “Barbara” story. A private interment is to be held at a later date.
Please omit flowers. Barbara was a lifelong animal lover. She requested donations be made to the Toronto Humane Society, the O.S.P.C. A., or to a charity of your choice.
