Richard K. Bauer, 87, of Manchester, NJ passed away on Tuesday March 3, 2020 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in Bavaria, Germany. Richard spent a happy and relatively carefree childhood in a small town in the country and then attended a trade school in Passau where he learned accounting, book-keeping and other business skills. Following difficult economic times after the war, the Bauer family followed the advice of an aunt and immigrated to America when Richard was 19 years old. Although circumstances denied him the chance to go to college, he still lived the American dream, working first as a farm hand in Michigan and then as a lab technician at Ciba-Geigy (now known as Novartis) in Toms River, NJ. Richard spent two years in the army from 1954 to 1956 where he proudly served his country and became a naturalized citizen. He ran several small businesses, saved his money, invested it wisely and his family was well provided for.
Richard enjoyed puttering around the garage and keeping a small vegetable garden. His greatest love was camping along the east coast from Maine to Florida when his children were young. After his retirement, he and his wife Betsy moved down to Florida for the winters, but spent the other six months of the year traveling across the country. The highlight of his camping life was the three week trip through the Inland Passage, through Alaska and back down through Canada.
Richard was predeceased by a loving wife Elizabeth in 2019 and his brother Siegfried, who died just one day before Richard. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Link and her husband Richard of Sparta, NJ, Lisa Hauschild and her husband Michael of Germany and Kathryn DeNardo and her husband Joseph of Toms River, NJ. Richard is also survived by seven grandchildren and two sisters, Linda Antoni and Gloria (Mucky) Mitchell.
As per the families request services are now private and they appreciate everyone's kind and loving wishes and support at this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association.
