Mary Lou Sutton

Mary Lou Sutton, 96, a longtime resident of Toms River and former resident of Harrogate in Lakewood, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 8, 2024 at Artis Senior Living in Brick, NJ. She was born in Hartford CT to Dr. Blackwell Sawyer and Zaida A. Sawyer. Her family moved to Toms River when Mary Lou was young, and she graduated from Toms River High School and Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. She enjoyed tennis, bridge, crossword puzzles, reading, walking, and traveling. She was a former member of the Toms River Yacht Club and member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River. For many years she served on Riverside Cemetery Board of Trustees.

She was predeceased by her husband Richard D. Sutton in 2006, her parents Dr. Blackwell and Zaida Sawyer and her brother Dr. Blackwell Sawyer, Jr. in 2019.

Surviving are her four children, Susan Sutton White, Julie Sutton Martin, Nora Sutton Stadelmann and Frank W. Sutton; her grandchildren Andrew Martin, Farra Martin Wilson, Sarah Allison White, Katherine Lee White, Richard Stadelmann, Karoline Stadelmann, and William Sutton; and her great-grandchildren Kai Martin, Serena Martin, Julie Wilson, and Kaylee Wilson.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday at Riverside Cemetery in Toms River. A Celebration of Life Service will be held, at a later date, to honor Mary Lou.
