Born on May 14, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey, to John and Bessie Scott of County Roscommon, Ireland, Mary embraced her Irish heritage with pride and shared its warmth and spirit throughout her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, her beloved sister, Sheila, and her eldest son, Paul.
In 1965, Mary married her husband, Robert Gallo, in Newark, NJ. Together, they moved to Bayville in 1973, where they raised their three sons: Paul (deceased), Robert of West Hartford, CT, and Joseph, who resides in Northport, NY, with his wife Suzanne. Mary was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Steven, Paul, Olivia, Luke, Fiona, Nadia, Joseph, and Kylie.
Mary worked as a deli manager at A&P Stores for 30 years, where her work ethic and friendly demeanor earned her the respect of colleagues and customers alike. Known affectionately in her neighborhood as “Mama G,” she treated every child who crossed her doorstep as her own, offering food, love and laughter.
Mary was a woman of many interests. She was an avid bowler and found joy strolling along the boardwalk or relaxing at the beach. A voracious, lifelong reader, she could often be found lost in a good book.
She was a faithful parishioner of St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church in Bayville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor, on Saturday, January 4 at 11:00 a.m.
Mary Elizabeth Gallo was a resilient and strong willed woman who was the backbone of her family, providing support and guidance to her sons. She will be deeply missed but remembered always with love.
