Marie was a dedicated wife and beloved Mother, Grandma and Nanny. Marie was born November 9, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Theresa (Glaser) and Petrus Hoogsteden. She married George C. Simms Sr. in 1951 and moved to Jersey City, NJ. Together they had 3 children, before moving to Carteret, N.J. in the early 1960’s. In 2006, Marie relocated to Toms River. Marie loved being around her family. She took great joy in cooking, playing cards, her trips to Atlantic City and watching her great granddaughters play together.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Anna Marie (Tom) Connelly of Brick, N.J. and Debra Ann (Don) Gray of West Deptford, N.J. She is also survived by her grandchildren Thomas (Dina) Connelly, Brian Connelly, Kimberly (Frank) Schultz, Kevin Connelly, Scott Gray (Paloma), Timothy Connelly (Brittany) and Tyler Connelly. Marie adored her four great granddaughters Madison and Sophia Connelly and Catherine and Abigail Schultz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, George C. Simms Sr., her son George C. Simms Jr. and her brothers, William, Henry and Peter Hoogsteden.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 3PM until 7PM at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, Toms River N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Toms River, N.J. Burial to follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, N.J.
