

Born in Newark, New Jersey where he lived for 40 years before moving to Union.
Leonard grew up in Newark and was a graduate of Weequahic High School where he also became a teacher and basketball coach. He spent a number of years coaching basketball at Rutgers Newark and The Temple Beth Ahm. He was a lifelong sports fan with allegiances to the Yankees and the Knicks. He loved college basketball and spent much of this time of year focused on March Madness and waited patiently for Opening Day of the Yankees.
He had a strong connection with the Catskills and spent many years working at numerous hotels in the borscht belt; most notably The Browns Hotel and Kutsher’s Country Club where he served as the activities and day camp director. He later retired from teaching and spent many years full time in the Catskills. He had a love for harness racing and had many racehorses throughout his life. After 20+ years in the Catskills he moved to Manchester to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Gross, his mother Ruth Weinstock and his beloved cousin, Carole Alexander.
He is survived by his daughter, Toni-Lynn Redmond, her husband, Andrew Redmond and his grandsons, Cayce and Grayden Redmond; his sister, Roni Horn and her husband, Alan Horn along with his nephews, David and Jay Horn.
A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday April 1st from 11am to 1pm, with a service to begin promptly at 11:30am, at Horizon Funeral Home in Toms River, NJ, located at 1329 Rt. 37 West. All are invited to sit shiva at the Redmond’s home afterwards.
