.Larry Douglas Gaskin, 69, of Beachwood, NJ, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Washington, DC, he grew up in Wartburg, TN and as a teen moved to Georgia. There he met his high school sweetheart and love of his life, his wife, Julia Cassandra. Larry served his country with pride and dedication for 24 years, first in the U.S. Navy for 15 years and for 9 years in the U.S. Army, retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. After retiring in 1987, he moved to Beachwood and continued working as a government contractor at Ft. Monmouth until 2011. Larry was a longtime and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Toms River and served on the Deacon Board and Building Grounds. He enjoyed bass fishing and spending time with his cherished family and friends.
He was predeceased by his father Carl Ray Gaskin. Surviving are his beloved wife of 47 years, Julia Cassandra; his son Kevin Douglas Gaskin; his daughter Krista Rachelle Gaskin- Liney; his mother Ora Mae Gaskin; a granddaughter Heather Anne; four sisters Cheryl Ramey of Covington, GA, Martha McArthur of Sharpsburg, GA, Carla Bradley of Marietta, GA and Gail Petite of Dallas, GA and his brother Mike Gaskin of Harrison, TN.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Toms River, 700 Main St. Toms River. A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
