Kurt was born in New York City on June 29, 1931. He moved to the Pinewald area of Bayville with his family at the age of 4. He graduated from Toms River High School in 1950 where he met his future wife and love of his life, Marcella.
He joined the National Guard in 1950 and served for 8 years in the 50th Armored Division. He worked for Jersey Central Power & Light from 1955 to 1992. He started as a lineman and rose to a supervisory position in the Line Department. He retired as the supervisor of the Trouble Department for the Southern Division in 1992.
He enjoyed flying, playing golf, traveling, photography and gardening. His favorite past-time, however, was spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife Marcella in 2011. He was also predeceased by his parents, Kurt and Olga Reininghaus and his brothers, Charles and Hellis Reininghaus. He is survived by his children, Patricia Tavis and her husband, Richard, Steven Reininghaus and his wife, Ashley, and Sandra Cox and her husband, Jonathan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shaun Thomas, Ryan Tavis, Christian Tavis, Samantha McClain, Kirstyn Cooley, Kyle Reininghaus, and Lilly Reininghaus and his two great-granddaughters Abigail Thomas and Mari Hoyt. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He died peacefully at home with his daughter, Patricia, by his side on July 17, 2024.
