John Roger Kendrick

John R. (Jack) Kendrick 90 passed away on May 25, 2016. He was born in 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Osborn and Eleanor Kendrick. He graduated from Withrow High School, where he met his future wife Anne Sturtevant, and Purdue University, where he received a degree in Chemical Engineering and was active in Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He started his career at Cincinnati Chemical Works and was transferred to this area as part of the startup of Toms River Chemical Corp. where he worked the rest of his career until retiring in 1985.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by Anne, his loving wife of 56 years, as well as his sister and brother in law, Anne and Jack Drake. He is survived by children Carol (Richard) Vargo and John (Terrie) Kendrick, grandchildren Michelle Vargo and Jeremy Brasca, and nieces and nephew, Barbara Rosenbloom, Nancy (Jim) Bowman, Rick (Kim) Drake and Sue (Bailey) Weathers, and many grand nieces and nephews.

Jack was devoted to his family and was an exceptional role model. He was always ready to be involved and assisting with activities such as high school band, where Jack and Anne were instrumental in founding the fundraising support group that continues to enable the marching band to travel and represent Toms River at special parades. He also helped however he could with the TRCC swim team and John’s Boy Scout troop. Jack inspired his family’s interest in golf, and family vacations usually centered around golf.

Jack has always been actively involved in the community. He was a long-time member of Christ Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Toms River, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award for community service twice. He served on the board at Community Memorial Hospital for many years as well as having been an early board member at the YMCA.

Jack thoroughly enjoyed golf and was extremely involved at Toms River Country Club in many ways, including board member. TRCC honored him by naming their high school golf tournament the Jack Kendrick Challenge Cup.

Jack was dearly loved, admired and respected by many friends in the community. Even at age 90 he had an established social routine around town and could be found regularly visiting with people at all his favorite eating establishments.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 415 Washington St., Toms River. A committal service will be held on Friday at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to visit www.andersonandcampbell.com to leave tributes to his family.
