She was predeceased by two husbands, Jerry Zoppi and Jack Shapiro, as well as parents Frank and Catherine (nee Kociolek), and two older brothers Thaddeus and Stanley and nephew, Thaddeus Jr.
She is survived by nephews Raymond and Stanley, and nieces Nancy and Maryann. Helen also had great-nephews Jesse, Daniel, Eric, Patrick and great-nieces Monica and Shannen. Surviving are also two great-great nephews Daniel Todd and Caiden and her cousin Helen Stroz.
Helen was a long-time resident of Elizabeth, NJ and attended St. Adalbert’s Church until relocating to Toms River. There she was a communicant of St. Maximillian Kolbe Church and active with the volunteers of Community Memorial Hospital especially during their annual Strawberry Festival fund raiser.
Helen worked at one job directly upon graduating from Battin High School in the clerical department of the Union County Board of Social Services, retiring after 41 years as a Supervising Clerk of the pool of typists and stenographers.
Helen was the Godmother of her nephew Daniel Gora and of Clarissa Tricoche, her dear friend Helen McLane’s daughter.
Helen enjoyed traveling, visiting with her family and friends, eating at the Chinese buffet, creating sculptures in ceramics, playing bingo, and reading novels. She could easily spend an hour talking on the phone with her dear sister-in-law Frances or her best friend Adele Horbacz. She was most helpful and kind in driving her friends and neighbors to doctor appointments and restaurants. She will be missed dearly.
A memorial service for Helen will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023, 10:00 AM at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, NJ with interment to follow to St. Joseph's Cemetery.
