It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Mary Bishop, a beloved resident of Toms River, NJ. Dorothy passed away on January 25, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on April 26, 1940, in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of Walter McGovern and Dorothy Mary Holt McGovern. She spent her formative years in Irvington, NJ, where she developed the strong foundation of values that would shape her life.
Dorothy's academic journey led her to achieve a Master's Degree from Kean College, marking the beginning of a distinguished career in education. Her passion for nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning defined her professional life. Dorothy dedicated herself to the Toms River, NJ school system, where she served as a supervisor for the majority of her career. Her impact on the education community was immeasurable, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students and colleagues.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dorothy was a cherished sister, survived by her sister, Maureen Persel of Toms River, NJ.
Friends, family, and colleagues are invited to pay their respects at a visitation scheduled for Sunday, February 4, from 3 to 6 pm at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home. This gathering will provide an opportunity to celebrate Dorothy's life, share cherished memories, and offer support to one another during this difficult time. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 9:30 AM at St. Justin the Martyr Church, 975 Fischer Blvd., Toms River. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Toms River.
