Charles F. (“Charlie”) Ingulli was born on Staten Island in 1923 to Charles and Agnes (Boylan) Ingulli. Baron, as he was known in his youth, left McKee High School to help support his family by working in the local shipyard until joining the Army Air Corps in 1943, eventually taking part in the Normandy invasion, landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day plus one. After returning home, he married his childhood sweetheart, Eleanor Panza in 1948. That same year, he joined the NYPD and rose through the ranks to Lieutenant of Detectives, where he led the Staten Island District Attorney’s detective squad for a decade. In 1986, he retired from the force and moved to Toms River with Eleanor.
Charlie was dedicated to his large, extended family. He and Eleanor were known for organizing numerous family picnics, day trips, reunions and visits. Charlie had a wonderful sense of humor and a calm, capable manner no matter what was happening. The entire clan depended on him for support, rides, and his ability to fix anything for them, from cars to appliances.
