On October 1, 2014 Genevieve “Gem” Schaaf (nee Galinak) passed away in her sleep after having a stroke. She was the beloved wife of the late Siebe Schaaf; loving mother of Susan Schaaf, Stephen Schaaf & his wife Tita Osorio Schaaf all of Trumbull, CT, Janina Schaaf Wetzel & her husband Ray of Phoenix, MD, and the late William J. Schaaf; cherished grandmother of Alison & Christopher Carey, Matthew Mahoney, Amanda & Dylan Schaaf, Ben, Will, Megan and Jackson Wetzel; great-grandmother of Aiden Mahoney.
Gem was born October 25, 1926 in Clifton, N.J. and graduated from Clifton High School. She is a graduate of Passaic General Hospital School of Nursing and took post graduate classes at New York University. Gem worked as an Industrial Registered Nurse. With her husband of 56 years she lived in Stamford for 35 years and volunteered with him for Meals on Wheels. Over the years she enjoyed skiing, bowling, cooking, sewing and gardening.
The family will receive friends in the vestibule of St. Joseph Parish 100 Church Lane, Cockeysville, MD 21030 on Saturday, October 25, 9:30 - 10 am at which time a Memorial Mass will be celebrated. Interment Private.
