Don Miller was born September 11, 1949 in Hood River, Oregon to Lula Mae Wetherell and Everett Miller. He was the fifth child born to the couple. Shortly after, the family moved to Coos Bay, Oregon where Don’s younger siblings were born. Don graduated from Marshfield High School in 1967 where he participated in wrestling and football. Upon graduation, Don enrolled in Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon and played football all four years. While there, Don met his future wife Diana Smith. He graduated in 1971 with a Bachelors of Science in Science and enrolled in a graduate program at Oregon State University that fall. The couple married September 9, 1972 on Orcas Island, Washington and returned to Corvallis where Don earned a Masters of Science in Nuclear Chemistry from OSU in 1973. Shortly after graduation, Don and Diana moved to Tigard, Oregon and have lived there since. In 1979 they welcomed a baby girl, Denise Ann, and then in 1982 welcomed a baby boy, Dale Everett. Don has worked as an engineer and salesman for wood product companies for the majority of his career, including COE Manufacturing, Lacey-Harmer Company, and American Wood Dryers where he was currently employed. He also served as soccer coach, Boy Scout leader and advisor, football and band booster parent, and all around supporter of youth activities. He enjoyed traveling to California to visit his children, his most recent trip to celebrate the wedding of his son to Stefanie Potts, from Danville, CA this past July.
Don is survived by his wife, Diana; daughter, Denise; son, Dale and daughter-in-law Stefanie; sister and brother-in-law, Toni and Mark Perkins with their children Rebekkah and Nathan; sister, Joan Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Ray Pratt; and brothers, Randy, Jerry, and Robert Miller. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sarah Geiser; cousins-in-law Richard, Deborah, Kate, and Erik Hansen; sister-in law and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Dan Bond and their children, Cavan Simonson and Zachary Simonson-Bond. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Lula Mae Miller and sister, Joyce Miller.
Services will be held November 5th, 2011 at 11am at Mountain Park Church in Lake Oswego (40 McNary Parkway, Lake Oswego, Oregon, 97035) with a reception luncheon to follow at the same location. Arrangements under the direction of Young's Funeral Home, Tigard, OR.
