Virginia J. Lewis passed away peacefully on October 27, 2021 in Thornton, Colorado. She was born on January 6, 1929 to George and Marguerite Wehrle in Denver, Colorado. She was raised and attended school in Denver with her two sisters, Margie and Mary, and her brother Dick. She married William P. Lewis (Bill) and together they raised five children: Billy, Patricia, Bill, Steve and Bobby.
She worked as an Executive Secretary for the Department of Education for the State of Colorado for 20 years. After her retirement in 1986, she and Bill moved to Florida for 14 years to enjoy the warmer weather and the many outside recreational activities that Florida has to offer. They moved back to Colorado in 2000 and bought a house in Thornton to be near family once again.
Virginia had many interests and enjoyed gardening, bowling, dogs, fishing, crossword puzzles, tole painting, embroidery and puzzles. She loved friends and family gatherings.
She is survived by daughter Patricia Telea (Bryan); son Robert Lewis (Pam); daughter-in-law Darlene Lewis; granddaughters Cara Algrim, Megan Lewis and Shawnee McKibben (Patrick); grandsons Dale Algrim (Dione); Rick Lewis (Lynn); Brian Lewis (Chelsie); Kevin Lewis (Jamie); David Lewis; Marty McKnight (Pam); and, Bob McKnight. She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband William P. Lewis and sons Steven Lewis, William A. Lewis and William P. Lewis, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 Grant St., Thornton, Colorado. A reception will follow the service at the same location.
