Sharon was born on April 29, 1949, in Woodstock, Illinois to William Klapperich and Francis Brown Klapperich. Sharon attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, class of 1963. She graduated from McHenry High School, class of 1967, and then attended Northern Illinois University.
Sharon was proceeded in death by both her parents and her sister, Dolores. Sharon is survived by her brother Ron (Karen) Klapperich, her three children, Jason (Kristin) Klontz, Kale (Barbara) Klontz, Lisa (David) Tilton, and three beloved grandsons, Joshua, Aden, and Davin.
In 1971, Sharon married Bryan Klontz and they had 3 children. The family moved to Colorado in 1979. Sharon worked for the Jefferson County Public School system for many years where she was referred to as “Mom” by the students. In 1996, the couple moved to Alabama, followed by Shanghai, China, and South Carolina before returning to Colorado in 2008.
Sharon was a devoted Catholic, lover of music, and family. She played the organ, sang in church choir, played in the bell choir, and led hymns as cantor and soloist. Sharon loved to volunteer and help others. She would spend as much time as she could with her grandchildren teaching them how to cook, read, and watching their sporting events. While living in Shanghai, China, Sharon volunteered at the local orphanage caring for babies who needed human touch. After beating cancer multiple times, Sharon volunteered with the American Cancer Society and drove cancer patients to their treatments. Sharon also crocheted and donated countless blankets to nursing homes and worked with the homeless through her church. When Sharon was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called CADASIL, she became an advocate for the disease. She organized a climb up Mt Sherman (14,036 ft.) in 2011 at the age of 62, raising money and awareness of the disease. Sharon also had the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of visiting the Holy Land of Jerusalem. Sharon embodied the true heartfelt spirit of a caregiver, always looking out for everyone else and putting others’ needs ahead of her own. As a beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Sister her legacy lives on in her family.
A small private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd for the family at Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery in Thornton, CO.
In lieu of flowers Sharon wished for donations to be made to the CADASIL Foundation and/or the American Cancer Society.
