Paula Annette Kinsinger Chambers peacefully passed away at home of natural causes on Sunday, September 3, at age 101 1/2 after a long, happy and fulfilled life. She was born in Ness City, KS on February 6, 1922, the second of five children born to Fred Kinsinger and Ruth Hunter.
Paula excelled in school, and graduated from Ness City High School in 1940, having been a drum majorette and a tennis player. She then attended Dodge City Business School in 1941, and began a long career as a secretary. Possessing outstanding secretarial skills, she could type like a whirlwind and take shorthand dictation like nobody’s business. Paula was an executive assistant before the term was invented, culminating as Executive Secretary to the late President of Regis College (now University), Father David Clarke, S.J.
Paula met the love of her life, Joe Chambers, in Ness City. While Joe was in the Army in WWII, Paula took a train by herself from Ness City to St. Louis, MO and met Joe there to be married in 1945. They enjoyed 55 years together until his passing in April 2000.
As Joe worked in construction, his employment was not always steady. At times, Paula was the sole breadwinner, working full-time and taking care of the family, while Joe was between jobs.
She was an amazing wife and mother, and taught us all what love and service to others really mean. Her love spilled over into any small animal or child that had the pleasure of knowing her. She often said her job in heaven would be to rock the babies.
One of her greatest joys in life was being with her family. Paula is predeceased by her parents, sister Doris Bates and brothers Richard, Floyd and Errol. She is survived by her son Bob Chambers (Judy), daughter Brenda Evans, grandsons Joshua Evans, Nicholas Chambers (Whitney Gurner), Nathan Chambers (Daniel Greenstreet), Luke Evans (Charly), many nieces and nephews, numerous friends and her church family at Harbor. The family especially wishes to thank our dear friend, angel on earth, and Paula’s caregiver, Wendy Landreth, for her loving and patient care.
A celebration of Paula’s life will be held on September 30 at noon at Harbor Church, Arvada Campus, 6245 Garrison St.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.olingerhighland.com for the Chambers family.
