Larry Simon Montez

Larry Simon Montez, 83, passed away March 16, 2024 in Denver, CO. Larry is preceded in death by his parents Simon Montez and Carrie Carmen Montez (Garcia) and his beloved wife Mary Susan Gerard Montez (Awana). Larry and Mary are survived by their six children; John A. Montez (Lisa), Christina A. Montez (Bobby), Carrie A. Montez (CD), Richard A. Montez (Lisa), David A. Montez (Leah), and Benjamin A. Montez, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Larry was born and raised in Denver, CO. He called Colorado his home for 66 years. As a young man, Larry served his country in the United States Marine Corps. The USMC was his life long passion as he loved to share memories with family, friends and other vets. He proudly wore his colors daily with honor. After the service, Larry joined the United States Postal Service where he retired after more than 40 years of service. He was a dedicated husband to his beautiful and talented wife Mary and his six children.

Larry never forgot to pray for his family, children and his puppies. He was a man of faith, read his bible often, and was in service to the church as an usher for many years at Blessed Sacrament church.

Larry enjoyed working with his hands, was a skilled woodworker, leather crafter, enjoyed drawing, smooth jazz music, working on his lawn, word puzzles and even taught himself to play the ukulele which he played every day. He took pride in his family, home, and service in the military.

He was a kind, funny and humble man who will be greatly missed.

Services will be held at Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery located at 10201 Grant Ave, Thornton, CO on April 3rd at 10am in Heritage Hall. The service will be followed by graveside service and then reception luncheon at the same location.

Donations in Larry’s name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. As the world's largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research, they are committed to accelerating the global effort to eliminate Alzheimer's and all other dementia.

A memorial service for Larry will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229. A reception will occur Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229.
