He attended Denver Public Schools: Whittier Elementary, Cole Jr. High School and graduated from Manuel High School in June 1963 (known as the track star and loved martial arts); he attended: Central Texas College; Wichita State University; Los Angeles City College with emphasis on Business Management and Real Estate. On June 10, 1995, Jerald Lee Carey married Avon Singleton; they shared twenty-six years of marriage.
His parents attended Odom Memorial Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop W.B. Odom when Jerald was born. Jerald loved the Lord and was a faithful, committed and a dedicate servant. He was ordained on December 7, 1999, under the leadership of Pastor Wayne McDonald of Odom Memorial Church of God in Christ where he remained until he was called by Yahweh to begin pastoring, as founder of, Cross of Christ Christian Center Church in 2005. He always said his foundational teaching from childhood kept him rooted and grounded in Christ Jesus and wouldn’t change it for anything. Jerald later befriended Bro. Jeremy of Simchat Torah Beit Midrash (STBM), who worked at Jerald’s bank and gave him a beautiful Hebrew calendar. Jerald and his wife, Avon, visited STBM on February 9, 2009, Black History month. Jerald was in total shock as Rabbi Ralph Messer spoke on Black History as never taught before. After making an altar call, it was then that Yahweh covered him and his wife in the Shekinah Glory of His Spirit as never experience before in their lives. Not only did the message ignite their spirit but they knew they had found what they had been missing. The Torah – Spirit, Truth, and Life!!! Jerald, his wife and children continue to attend and have been under the leadership of Rabbi Ralph Messer, who teaches Biblical Judaism, ever since.
Jerald is survived by his wife Avon L. Carey, of Denver, CO; his children: Jerald L. Carey Jr. and Jerome L. Carey both of Copenhagen, Denmark, Valerie L.
