Lois E. Wells

Born to Eldon and Ellen Hunt in Toronto, she lived most of her childhood in the Christie St. and Dupont area. Lois was the youngest of three children. Paul and Howard were her brothers, both predeceased. Her family couldn't afford to send her to Ontario Pioneer Camp, near Huntsville, but she wanted to go so badly that she served in the kitchen in order to pay her way. She also loved to swim and roller skate.

In 1954 she married her first husband Russell Wells and they had 5 children. Lois was fun loving with a very outgoing personality and she loved music. She learned to play the violin and sang in the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir for a few seasons. As a Christian and follower of Jesus Christ, Lois served with passion in the church using primarily her musical talents. She spent a number of years playing the violin in The Peoples Church orchestra in Toronto. In later years she sang in their choir and in many of the grand musical productions such as the Living Christmas Tree. Lois loved to dance and learned ballroom dancing, performing in a couple of competitions. In her 40's she went back to school to finish High School and went on to become an RNA (Registered Nursing Assistant) and worked at North York General Hospital for over 15 years. Caring for those in need was a concern for Lois, whether it was family, friends, hospital patients or local people she would come across. In 2001 she married her second husband Gayle Hanthorn. As a strong woman of faith, Lois followed a call to serve aids orphans in Uganda even though she had health issues at the time. Eventually, she and her husband, Gayle, took three trips to Uganda to help build housing through the Watoto Ministry. We are so thankful that she now is safe and resting in the arms of Jesus, her Saviour and Lord. “For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:7&8 (NKJV)

Lois leaves behind her second husband Gayle Hanthorn (married for 15 years), her first husband Russell, her 5 children and their families, (son) John (wife) Debbie; (grandchildren) Briton and his wife Laura, Graydon and Amanda; (son) Mark (wife) Virginia; (grandchildren) Ani and Matthew; (daughter) Margaret (husband) David; (grandchildren) Brendon, Rebecca, Jonathan and his wife Jenna (great-grandchildren) Jalylee, Jolina and Jaden; (son) Grant (wife) Paula, (grandchildren) Olivia and Nathan; (daughter) Jennifer (husband) Jared, (grandchildren) Madison, Courtenay, Alexandra and Joel; Grandchild Christian predeceased her as he died just a few days after birth in 1994.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caring staff at The Briton House Retirement Centre and Sunnybrook Hospital for their superb care in dealing with the various deteriorating health issues that Lois faced over the last few years.
