Larry Earl Johnson passed peacefully at the age of 76 years on Tues. Jan. 4, 2022 in hospital after an unexpected catastrophic medical event. He is survived by the love of his life of over 50 years, his wife Millie. In addition, his children Carolyn (Brian) and Beth, and grand fur baby Scout. He is also survived by brother Michael (Dafi) and family, Uncle Frank (Val) and family, Uncle David, and a number of cousins and their families. Larry was very thankful for his wife’s family and his friends.
Larry rejoins in eternal life, his parents and other dear family members and friends.
Larry will be remembered as a caring person who loved spending time with his family. He so enjoyed the outdoors- walking, fishing, hunting, boating, camping, and cottaging. He could be found holding hands with his wife, talking with family and friends, making people laugh, driving, taking day trips, cooking, enjoying 1950’s music, fixing the car and things around the house, and reading non-fiction historical and how-to books. Larry was a quietly observant Christian.
A lifelong fan of the City of Toronto. He brought his skilled trade of Sheet Metal Worker to the cityscape, to the building and maintaining of a number of Toronto business, cultural, and public landmarks and institutions. To name a few, this included the SkyDome/ Rogers Centre, the Eaton Centre, the Simpson Tower, the Scotia Plaza, and the TD Tower. For a number of years he was the Tinsmith at Black Creek Pioneer Village, hand making the large kettle that hangs off the front balcony greeting visitors to this day.
Finally, he spent many years at the TTC before retiring. Throughout his life he was very hardworking and enjoyed helping others. Larry mellowed in his retirement and further applied himself as a caregiver to an immediate family member.
The family would like to express gratefulness to the staff at North York General Hospital for their excellent care.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation in Larry’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at 1-877-882-2582 or online at https://www.heartandstroke.ca/
