It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected yet peaceful passing of Dr. George Maugeri, aged 96, on Sunday, October 13, 2024. He shared 68 years of marriage with his cherished wife, Norah (nee McCormick). He will be dearly missed by his eight children: Michael (Catherine Brookman), Paul, Catherine (Michael Schuck), John (Christina Harding), Peter, Anne-Marie, Maureen (Steven De Lisser) and Christopher (Leticia Andrade Ortega); his in-laws, Maureen (Leo Wigglesworth d.), Basil (d.), Sheila (Dr. Dennis O´Brien), and Celestine (d.); his 19 grandchildren; and his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. George was predeceased by his parents, Marie and Frank Maugeri; and his siblings, Frank, Tony, Dominic, Lena, Theresa, and Rudi.
George lived a full and vibrant life, deeply rooted in his strong faith, family, and a profound love of music. He created a family filled with love and laughter and instilled in his children the values of love, kindness, and compassion. George's children were blessed to grow up with his guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love. Music was the soundtrack of his life, bringing joy to him and those around him. He is the last remaining survivor of the very first St. Michael's Choir School class. He was a dedicated and long-time parishioner of Blessed Trinity Parish. A special thank you to his PSWs and the nurses on 3West at NYGH. His presence, infectious smile and warmth will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, October 16th, from 3-7 p.m. at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill, Ontario, and Thursday, October 17th, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Church. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 17th, at Blessed Trinity. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
