I wish to extend my condolences to the entire Shaw family. I met Don at Thornhill C.C. In the early eighties. He gave me a wonderful piece of guidance when dealing with a difficult situation that I have remembered to this day. The way you handle a situation has many options, pick the one with the best possible outcome & be sensitive to all involved. Thanks Mr. Shaw rest in peace 

Lori, Cindy, Penny and Jodi: I was so saddened to hear of your dad's passing. Julie and I didn't find out until today and I am sorry we could not be in attendance as a result. It's been a very difficult time for us all and I hope you know that the McNairs thought so much of your family and the love and support you each have given them and us more recently. I hope Julie, myself, Jennifer & David can continue that long standing tradition with you as we all try to move forward. Don and Patti were their 2nd parents and thanks to Scott and Steve we got to know them and you as well. I will always cherish the stories and the laughter we were lucky enough to be a part of. Love and prayers to you all.

We are so very blessed to have known Don and Patti! It brings tears because we were so fortunate to have them in our lives for so many wonderful occasions!! Always fun and cheerful and determined! Don spent many years at the Quebec International Bonspiel and as the secretary of the Royal Canadian AAR Club. He always had a smile and a kind word and will be missed by all AAR members.

Our thoughts are with all the sisters , husbands and grand children during this time of sorry , Don is in a better place and will be looking down at us.

It is with a great deal of saddness that the news of Don's passing reaches us and we wish to pass along sincerest condolences to Don's children and their families as well as other relations. As Captain of the 1998 Strathcona Cup South Tour to Scotland, it was indeed a pleasure to have Don not only as a part of the tour but particularly as a team mate. Not having met Don proir to the Tour, I couldn't have picked a better team player and finer individual to Tour with. He was always a joy to play with and also particularly when it came to the socializing part of the game as he was the ultimate team player who was admired by one and all. He enjoyed the Tour and the fun so much and made so many friends along the way. He was always so proud of his association with the Fraser Highlanders which meant so much to him. It was always fun for years afterwards to meet up with Don and Patti at a Brier or other major curling event. The curling world and his mates from the Strathcona Tour in Scotland mourn his loss and will never forget his contribution to the roarin' game. Rest in Peace good friend, you will be missed.

Don was one of the founding members of The 78th Fraser Highlanders, York Garrison. As a new officer of the garrison, Don would take me aside and offer advice and words of encouragement as I took on new positions. Don will be greatly missed by his fellow officers of York Garrison and we will have a moment of silence for him at our regimental dinner this Friday. Our heart felt condolences go out to his family. We share in your great loss.

Jodi, Cindy, Lori and Penny, I was so sorry to read of your father's passing. I will always remember both he and your Mom as they were on Sagebrush. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jack Bryans and I have many fond memories of Don on our many visits to the Quebec International Bonspiel. We have missed him the last couple of years, but his memory will live on with us and the whole Brampton Curling Team.

Don was a wonderful Kiwanian. In the early 1960's the following poem was published in the Kiwanis Builder weekly bulletin. It looks at death from a different vantage point and I pray that it may provide some consolation to the family at this sad time. My prayers are that you get over this sad time quickly. Unfortunately death is that one great mystery we each must face and yet know so little about. Bob Coffey Gone from my Sight I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then, someone at my side says: “There, she’s gone!” Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side; and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her; and just at the moment when someone at my side says: “There, she’s gone!”, there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout – “Here she comes!”. Twenty eight years ago when I walked in the lobby of the Chateau Frontenac to attend my first Quebec International Bonspiel, one of the first things I saw – and heard was the Thornhiill “A” team’ s Marching Band, with Don in the lead. That was just one of the wonderful memories of a great guy and a great team. Need I mention the famous “Chariot Race?” Don will be missed and mourned at the upcoming 100th. anniversary of the bonspiel, by not only our “Cops Capers” team but by all of the rest of his friends. Damn that Black Camel! Good Curling in Heaven Don!
