Mr. Harms was born on October 6, 1921 in Nassau County, New York to the late Adolph and Eva Felbinger Harms. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Harms had proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp in the 380th Bombardment Group where he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 6 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal. After receiving an honorable discharge, Mr. Harms moved back to New York where he retired from New York Telephone Company after 32 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Harms in 2005 and son, Robert Harms in 2015.
Surviving are his daughter, Andrea Schwebel and her husband Irv of Charlotte; two grandchildren, David Schwebel and his wife Michelle and Joanna Blake and her husband Richard, all of Charlotte; and two great grandchildren, Joseph and Alexander Schwebel.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, February 17th at the Salisbury National VA Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
