David was born to the late Carl and Louise Mason. He was a graduate of Lynchburg College and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Dave had many interests which allowed him to pivot through his career years. From General Electric in Lynchburg, VA to Executive Director of Junior Achievement in Columbia, SC and Winston-Salem, NC, and later to owner of a Tinderbox and Cork and Cap in Raleigh, NC.
David had a passion for Corvette’s and was a member of NCRS, Clubvette, and the Triad Corvette Club. Music was a pursuit throughout his entire life. Highlights of this lifelong hobby included recording at Sun Studio, tv appearances with his band the Belveder’s. In his later years, to sustain his lifelong love of singing, he sang with the musical group, Senior Class chorus at several venues throughout NC.
Dave volunteered for many years as an Assistant Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 747 and as a N.C. Master Gardner at Tanglewood Park. He had a love for being in the outdoors and teaching others.
He is survived by his wife, Carlene Ward Mason, daughter Davina (Tommy) Bernard, sons David (Angie) Mason Jr. and Robert (Rebekah) Mason, three stepdaughters Annette, deceased, (Gary) McSwain, Mitzi (David) Baird, and Windy (Brooks) Maynard. He had seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Carolina Memorial Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC at 2:00PM on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
