Charlie Laverne Clark

THOMASVILLE – Charlie Laverne (“Vern”/ “My Daddy”) Clark, age 67, died unexpectedly on November 2, 2024. He was born in Dillon County, SC on January 22, 1957 to Charlie and Virgie Hunt Clark. His departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound is felt by his entire family and countless others who encountered his beautiful soul.

Charlie worked most of his life at TFI, following in the footsteps of his father. After TFI closed, he worked at a couple other furniture companies eventually finding his landing spot at Bartimaeus By Design, where he retired in January 2023.

Charlie is survived by two daughters, Heather Clark (Bobby Small) and Tonya Clark; two grandchildren, Ethan Rhymer and Anez Small; one brother, Hillard Wayne Clark; two sisters, Charlene (“Sissy”) Clark and Willa Mae (“Nook”) Clark; nieces, nephews and many loyal friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Marion (“Boo Boo”) Clark and sister Sarah Frances (“Tina”) Lambert.

Charlie was a simple man who lived a simple life, yet he was a rich man. He was rich in his love for God, his beautiful daughters, grandchildren and his dog. He was rich in kindness, empathy, soulful laughs and his giving heart. He had very strong values and was well liked by everyone, mostly due to his positive energy. He passed these values to his daughters. He raised them to be strong and brave. To see the funny side of things and to do their best. He inspired them to be optimistic and kind. With patience and love, he showed them the way. To live in the here and now and seize each day. To face life’s challenges with grace and ease. His love and guidance will always be cherished. Who he was will be embodied in them forever. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them and if you knew him, you knew it. It was especially felt in his big ol’ hugs. His legacy will carry on forever reminding us that we control our attitudes. We choose to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service. He will be greatly missed. May we all remember one of his favorite sayings when we think of him: “wooooo doggy, hot diggity dog”!

A celebration of life service will be held at a future date. It was important to Charlie to find joy in life and share it with others. The family asks you to do the same. Go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you.
