Bill graduated from Newark High School and attended the University of Delaware from 1939-1943 on a football and baseball scholarship. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas, El Paso, and his Master in Education from the University of Texas, El Paso.
Bill married Jane Larson on April 24, 1943.
A veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, Bill served in the US Army for 26 years. He was an elementary teacher for 13 years. Active in a variety of organizations, Bill was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, VFW; American Legion, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was also a Free Mason and a Shriner.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Guy E. Hancock Sr. and Josephine Wallace Hancock; wife, Jane; brothers, Robert, and Guy E.
He is survived by his son, William Allen (Denise) Hancock Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth H. Stewart; grandchildren, Lisa Renee (Louis) Dunham, Michael Eric Hancock and Julie Pleva, and Christine Stewart (David) Smith; great grandchildren, Sydnie Dunham, Saige Dunham, Brandon Hancock, Tyler Hancock, and Hunter Smith; and sister, Mary Alice Hancock Hopper.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, June 15 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for refreshments in Forest Park’s event room.
