Shirley was born in Dallas, Texas on September 10th, 1949, to Jennie Lee Craiker.
In her teenage years Shirley attended Sunset High School and was a part of the Sunset Bissonnette Drill Team. Her senior year she met the love of her life, Cecil “Hal” Smith Jr. They married on December 1, 1967. In 1973 they welcomed their first child, Jill Anne Smith. The three of them moved from Dallas to Spring in the summer of 1975. In 1977, they welcomed their second daughter, Annisa Lee Smith.
Shirley worked many years for the local Union 716 until she was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1992. Shirley overcame her cancer and was blessed to have a long-blessed life.
Shirley loved being a wife and mother. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. There was nothing that she couldn’t conquer in her mind. She didn’t believe in the words “can’t” or “weak”. Something that she also installed in her daughters. Shirley never judged, boasted or bragged. Her moto was “GOD GIVETH AND GOD TAKETH AWAY” and she lived by that. She loved spending time with her family, which included nine grandchildren.
Shirley loved to sing, dance, and listen to music, and loved putting smiles on people’s faces. Her laugh was contagious and she was always the life of the party.
Shirley was a devout Christian. She and Hal taught their daughters to always believe and seek in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Shirley was a long-standing member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, where she was involved in ministries such as Women’s Prayer Team and Vacation Bible School, etc.
Shirley is going to be deeply missed by her family, but they find comfort in knowing she is with the Lord Jesus Christ, and that one day they will be reunited. Hal always referred to her and his daughters as his “angels”. Shirley truly is an angel now.
Shirley is preceded in death by her grandfather and grandmother, Leo and Mary Craiker, her father and mother, Roy and Jennie Eschmann, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil H. and Julia Smith, Sr., her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Weldon and Judith Lenamond, her uncle Richard Abood Craiker, and her cousin, Roger Craiker.
