Robert Dale Reynolds, 75, died July 11, 2015, after cardio vascular complications. A graveside burial service will be held Friday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin, Texas. A memorial service will be held in The Woodlands, Texas, on Saturday, July 18, at 11 a.m. in the Robb Chapel at The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
Born September 5, 1939, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to Hazel Marsh (Younger) and John (Jack) Barthalomew Reynolds, Bob grew up primarily in Lufkin, Texas. Hunting and fishing along the Angelina River, Bob – or Bobby as he was known to many – also spent his younger years playing baseball and football as a Lufkin Panther, bowling at Lufkin Lanes and working at the Crystal Ice House. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1958 and received his bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin University in 1963. In 1961, he married the love of his life (and high-school sweetheart), Margie Kay Chancey. Bob’s first job after college was as a sales representative for the Lufkin Industries Trailer Division in Houston, Texas. Along the way, Bob and Margie were blessed with three children: Robert Craig, Kyle Terrence and Katherine Gale.
After close to a decade with Lufkin Industries, Bob moved his family in 1972 to Roswell, Ga., to work for Perkins Goodwin as a sales agent. This marked the start of a successful career in the newsprint industry, with positions at Southland Paper Mills, St. Regis Paper Company and Champion International. In 1987, Bob took a gamble and left his position at Champion to join a group of investors seeking to build a new paper mill in Grenada, Mississippi. Integral in the mill’s creation, Bob served as President of Newsprint South Sales and Vice President of Newsprint South. After the company was purchased by Bowater, he continued working there until he retired in 2001. Following retirement, he worked for several years as a consultant for PAGE Cooperative, a nonprofit newspaper buying association.
Supporting him throughout his successful career was his wife, Margie. Equally devoted, Bob was a loyal husband and loving father. After retiring from a career that involved extensive travel, Bob’s focus was on spending time at home with Margie and family and friends. He continued his long-time hobby of golf and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, dinner with friends, seeing his five grandchildren and spending time with his dog.
His strong moral character, incredible work ethic, deep love for family, and overall strength and determination make his death hard to comprehend. His ability to find humor in life was evident until the very end, as he left his family laughing even before surgery. As his family and friends continue to share wonderful memories and humorous stories, they will miss his quick wit, keen sense of humor, honesty and loyalty.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel, and father, Jack. He is survived by his wife, Margie; son Kyle, and his wife, Angie; son Craig; daughter, Kathy, and her husband, David; sister, Betty Mears, and her husband, Chuck; brother, Terry Reynolds, and his wife, Nancy; grandchildren, who lovingly called him Grand Bob: Caroline and Marshall Cloyd and Taylor, Travis and Tristin Reynolds; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dog, Tucker, who made him smile every day.
Memorial donations may be made to The Woodlands United Methodist Church Missions or the American Heart Association.
